Las Vegas, Nevada: renowned for its casino’s, shows and extravagant hotels. People come from all over the world to experience the atmosphere of this vibrant city, located in the Mojave Desert. Unfortunately, many seem to overlook the limitless activities that Vegas has to offer, other than drinking and gambling.
I have done “Vegas” before. I stayed at a fancy hotel on the strip and attended some of the lavish shows and restaurants. It was certainly fun and I would suggest that everyone do it once in their life. However, I enjoyed my Vegas experience much more when I stayed away from the excitement, in a quiet neighborhood about 25 minutes away from the airport.
My friend and I crashed at this camper, called “The Vintage Hippie”. Though the style was retro, the camper was modern and included every amenity we needed. There was a mini kitchen, a heavenly bed, storage, a television, a toilet and a shower. Hanging on the bathroom door was an assortment of toiletries, bath and hair products for our convenience. It was clear by the provisions in the camper, that the owners wanted to make our stay comfortable.
The sweet, friendly couple who own the “The Vintage Hippie” allowed my friend and I to check-in and out later than originally specified, due to flight changes.
This couple was not only generous with our time there, but they even allow visitors to use their pool and hot tub. The camper is parked in their backyard next to the pool, tempting visitors to jump in to escape the hot, dry Nevada weather.
I could easily spend a few days relaxing at the camper, conversing with the kind, insightful hosts who radiate positivity. After a bit of leisure, I would be itching to explore the many outdoor activities in and around Las Vegas.
Here are a few suggestions:
- Hiking in the Valley of Fire
- Experience Red Rock Canyon
- Visit Lake Mead
- Check out the Colorado River & Hot Springs
- Explore Mt. Charleston
These are just a few of the many options. So if you want to experience a different side of Vegas, know that there are plenty of great activities, other than drinking and gambling to occupy your time.
